On the newsstands now is the 50th issue of Martha Stewart's Everyday Food, and it is a good one! So pick one up today....
I can't believe it is already at 50 issues, I remember the first issue came out on our way home from our honeymoon and I had a subscription but since I am not one to wait I had to buy it in the San Francisco airport. That first issue still has one of my favorite recipes, the Real Deal Chili. Now she is 50 and oh so wise for her age. One of my favorite parts of this issue is the 50 no recipe meals. I love all the little hints like #7, Saute ham, onions and broccoli: toss with pasta. What a simple and easy recipe. Take that Rachel Ray, I shudder at even typing her name, anyway back to Everyday Food...
Here are some more favorites:
page 20; fast chicken fajitas, nothing is faster or tastier than fajitas, and make a little extra for the next night as well.
page 35: Shrimp and cabbage lo mein, another tasty and fast one. Shrimp are one of those great things to find in the freezer and wa-la... a great dinner in no time
page 62: Tomato, chickpea and arugula salad. Two of my favorite things, arugula and chick peas. This is a great one and I see myself making this one all the time.
page 76; Smoked Salmon canapes with tarragon. Anything with salmon is #1 with me. The recipe calls for store bought smoked salmon, but would be even better with homemade Lax
page 94; Lemon-roasted chicken with arugula salad and dilled orzo, I made this last week and the roasted lemons add a great flavor to the chicken.
page 99; Pork tenderloin with garlic-orange vinaigrette with sauteed spinach. This was the first thing I made from the issue and it was great. Get the pork loin nice and caramelized on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside
page 109; Portobello, broccoli and red-pepper melts. John was scared to death the night I made this, he is not a big broccoli fan but cover the roasted veggies with a little cheese and he is a happy guy. This was super filling and delicious!
page 116; Spinach and gruyere quiches. I can't wait to make this one. I crave quiche from time to time with a lovelt mesculin salad and french vinagrette... Cest magnifique
page 132; White bean and olive salad, perfect for a side with the Balsamic Skirt Steak on page 96
There are even more great finds in the 50th issue, too many for me to name. It is on the newstands now, hurry and get it before the April issue is on the stands.
Bon Appetit!
